We value and respect each and every one of our employees. As a family-owned business, we encourage all our staff to aim high and be all they can be, no matter what their race, background, identity or circumstances. They need to know their views and opinions are valued and encouraged.
In our construction divisions:
- 21% of employees are women – that’s 8.5% over the industry average.
We know we can do better and are actively engaged in schemes across the country to encourage diversity in the industry.
We work closely with schools and colleges to promote the industry to all pupils and our staff act as mentors and role models to a diverse range of students.
- We are involved with a North East regional university scheme called Building Better Futures – an initiative aimed at students between 11 and 13 to raise their aspirations, challenge stereotypes and raise awareness of roles within the industry.
- We are engaged with the Local Enterprise Partnership D2N2 on their Open Doors Project which arranges employer-lead visits into industry for students – all of this is led by some of our female employees, providing role models to young women.
- Our STEM Ambassadors are involved with colleges across the UK as mentors and role models.
